A Lively Burns Day Celebration

Here at St Margaret’s Care Home in Edinburgh, we marked Burns Day with a lively celebration honouring Robert Burns. The afternoon included traditional Scottish music, dancing and delicious snacks, which brought on laughter, dancing, and so many smiles all around.

We were pleased to welcome Matthew, a talented local accordion player who brought a wonderful atmosphere to the room. Residents tapped their feet to the music and some even enjoyed a dance. This type of entertainment and live music performances create meaningful moments of joy and connection for residents, many of whom have strong emotional memories linked to music. Familiar songs can spark conversation, encourage movement and help residents feel more engaged and uplifted, boosting overall wellbeing.

With traditional Scottish snacks to share and familiar tunes filling the lounge, it was a memorable way to celebrate the occasion. For many of our residents, maintaining a connection to their Scottish culture and local community plays an important role in their sense of identity and belonging. Familiar traditions, music, stories and celebrations like these can bring comfort and pride, while also sparking memories and meaningful conversations. By embracing these cultural connections and encouraging links with the local community, we help residents feel valued, understood and part of something larger than ourselves. This sense of continuity and community supports emotional wellbeing and helps residents feel truly at home.

Plenty of happy moments were shared together and the atmosphere was truly spectacular. Plus, we also wished a very Happy Birthday to our beautiful Maureen!
