Enjoying Festive Music This December

This month, our residents were treated to two joyful events that captured the spirit of the season and the fabulous benefits of music for our residents. We love seeing Alicia, our beloved music therapist, whose monthly sessions have become a firm favourite among residents. Alicia brought her usual charm and talent, leading us through a lovely programme of familiar songs, gentle rhythms, and singalong classics. Residents joined in with tambourines, ukuleles, and warm smiles, with many tapping their feet and even dancing in their chairs.
Residents enjoyed playing their instruments in time to the beat, and our residents often say that joining in with the music brings back fond memories. Alicia’s sessions don't just entertain, they uplifts and reconnects our residents to their younger years. Music has a remarkable ability to unlock memories, especially for those living with dementia, and her sessions create shared experiences that linger long after the final note.

Later in the month, our lounge was transformed with festive decorations and glittery tinsel as the delightful pantomime A Christmas Box came to visit. The performers brought the house down with their colourful costumes, playful humour, and toe-tapping routines. There was plenty of audience participation with laughter and shouts of 'he's behind you!' echoing through the room as residents joined in the fun.
Our residents and staff dressed in party hats and tinsel, and everyone. These events offer far more than entertainment, they lift spirits, encourage movement, stimulate memory, and bring people together. Music in particular has been shown to reduce anxiety, spark conversation, and support emotional wellbeing in older people, and we see those benefits in action every time Alicia visits.

We’re so grateful to both Alicia and the cast of A Christmas Box for helping to make this season so special for our residents. If you’re looking for a care home where your loved one will be supported, valued and filled with joy through meaningful activities like music therapy and engaging entertainment, we’d love to welcome you at St Margaret’s.
